Pre-op checks completed in advance, I'm sitting on my hospital bed waiting for my third and hopefully last operation. I
arrive at 11am and my operation is to be at 1.30pm, so very little waiting
around this time which I'm pleased about. I haven’t thought much about what to
expect, finding it easier to be in the moment and deal with whatever is
required. Giles arrives to discuss the procedure. I take the opportunity to
double check the size we are going for and some questions on the longevity of
the implants. I really will have the best pair on the beach when I'm 80. I also ask how he will check both sides will hang the same if I'm lying down on the operating table – he replies I will be sitting up. That
freaks me out slightly and I'm glad I’ll be unconscious. I walk down to the
theatre and kiss my worried looking husband and mum goodbye, although the
operation will only be 45 minutes long.
The recovery room is a blur and then I
am back in my room on the ward attached to a drip and two drains. The pain is
much less than from the previous two operations and, straight away, I can feel
that my breasts no longer stick out at the side and they are soft. I'm not
ready to try the jiggle test yet though. There is still quite a wide gap
between the two breasts – not quite achieving the two finger goal that Giles
had referred to, but when he arrives, he advises that I will be wearing a stiff
sports bra day and night for the next two months to push them into the newly
released cavity. Mentally I assign more money into my promised lingerie fund
for two months time.
I have a good supper and sleep pretty
well during the night, only needing a couple of paracetamol at 3am.
